Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I should see a therapist?

You don't have to wait until things feel overwhelming to benefit from therapy. Many people reach out when they notice they're feeling more anxious, stressed, or emotionally drained than usual. Therapy can be helpful if you're experiencing high anxiety, eating challenges, burnout, relationship challenges, major life transitions, postpartum emotional changes, teen mental health, or feeling stuck or unsure how to move forward.

How do I start therapy in Calgary?

I offer a free 15-minute consultation call or video call (zoom). This allows for us to get to know each other a little bit more and determine if I am the right person for you. Alternatively, you can email me to schedule your first session (offered in-person and virtually).

What happens during the first therapy session?

The first few sessions will be spent on getting to know you. From there, we will collaboratively create a plan which will move you towards your hopes and goals in therapy. Sessions will include sharing thoughts, looking at different perspectives, sharing emotions, practicing skills and above all, stepping outside of your comfort zone. You will be supported along the entire process.

How do I know if we are a good fit?

A relationship with your therapist is important. A therapist supports you on building upon your inner strengths and skills to navigate through life’s storms. A common misconception is that a referral to therapy is required. You can set it up on your own and feel empowered in making the right decision for yourself. I want you to feel comfortable and safe with me. I offer a 15 minute phone consultation to new clients who may be curious or have questions.

How long is the therapy process?

This is completely based on individual circumstances and goals for therapy. During the first session, we will discuss the frequency that is best aligned with you. Typically, the start of therapy is scheduled with more frequent sessions. For some, therapy may be a shorter process to achieve immediate and specific goals. For others, with longer-standing issues or as part of their self-care routine may envision a longer therapy process.

What if I can't make my appointment?

I do have a 24 hour cancellation policy. I understand that life emergencies or challenges may arise; however, if your appointment is cancelled within the 24 hours there will be a charge.

What is your rate?

Individual sessions are $225 per 50 minutes and $337.50 for 90 minute sessions.

Is therapy covered by insurance in Alberta?

Psychological services are covered by most Extended Health Care Plans. Certain companies may cover counselling by a R.S.W (Registered Social Worker). I am happy to share my registration number with you in order to ensure coverage. Please contact your insurance company to inquire regarding the terms of your policy.

Do I need a doctor's referral to see a therapist in Alberta?

No! You do not need a referral to book a therapy appointment with most private counselling clinics in Calgary and Alberta.

What are your payment options?

I accept e-transfers, Mastercard, Visa, and American Express.

E-transfers are to be sent prior to scheduled appointment.
